Shoot for the Moon

Shoot for the Moon at Chicago's Adler Planetarium inspires visitors to play an active role in humankind's future in space. The host for this immersive, two-gallery adventure is the legendary Gemini and Apollo astronaut Jim Lovell, whose engaging personal narrative draws visitors into the stories of how America made it to the Moon more than three decades ago and how we will get back.

The first gallery transports visitors from the age-old dream of lunar exploration to the spectacular success of Lovell's Gemini XII mission. In the second gallery, the accomplishments of the Apollo Program create a springboard toward the future, as visitors engage in hands-on preparations for their own explorations of the Moon.

Highlights include a multimedia presentation designed around the authentic Gemini XII capsule, a blue-screen "Moon Jump" simulation, and a Pepper’s Ghost show that puts a humorous spin on the dangers and opportunities of lunar exploration. The experience includes dozens of fascinating Gemini and Apollo artifacts from Lovell's personal collection, NASA and the blockbuster feature film Apollo 13.
