EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Experience Design Lead

Company Overview:

BRC Imagination Arts is a Los Angeles-based experiential design and production company comprised of an eclectic group of thinkers, designers, artists, writers and technical wizards focused on pushing the boundaries of creativity and imagination in the realm of the possible. We endlessly strive to conceive ideas that grow into sustainable, transforming experiences for audiences around the world that have the ability to change the cultural conversation. In other words, we like to tell stories in new, emotional and thrilling ways. Our clients include some of the most prestigious museums, international brands, cultural institutions and world-class visitor attractions.

We’re looking to meet bright, talented and enthusiastic Experience Design Leads to join our idea circle and eclectic ranks. If you have an amazing portfolio, a passion for design, and a “do whatever it takes” attitude, we want to see what you’ve got. We are looking for full-, part-time and freelance candidates.

The Job:

As an Experience Design Lead at BRC, you’ll be responsible for the creation of ideas and visual aspects of experiential design for the concept and master planning of museums, theme parks, brand experiences, and/or cultural heritage attractions. (And sometimes a lot of them, all at the same time.) You will have to conduct design research to inform and support conceptual ideas, and work closely with designers and writers to find the most effective, killer way to communicate an idea. You will develop and present these ideas in illustrative sketches, plans, media, polished presentations and/or 3D models that effectively communicate the concept vision both internally and to clients. You will also work on non-design stuff, like managing the scope, schedule and budget requirements of projects.

Essential Skills:

  • You must have solid experience in story-driven design, with a background in spatial and interpretive experience design. Knowledge of theater design is a definite plus. Please be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
  • You need to be a powerhouse at generating ideas and design solutions.
  • You must be able to present design ideas in a painfully clear and effective way. Strong communication skills are critical, as are supervisory ones.
  • You must be able to manage multiple projects and meet (sometimes crazy insane) deadlines.
  • You will also be responsible for working with the Project Manager to keep staff and resources in balance.
  • You must have strong design and business skills and the ability to lead from the front.
  • You must be able to think through the end of your pen or mouse. Ideation skills are critical to our design process. You’ll be responsible for generating quick sketches in meetings that awe the client and clearly communicate the concepts being generated by all participants.
  • You must be able to work well with other designers, non-designers and management and be comfortable presenting and meeting with clients.
  • Enjoy travel? There’s a fair amount of it in this job.
  • An understanding of sustainable design and cultural sensitivity is a HUGE plus. We care about the world and the future we all share. We celebrate the human spirit.
  • Flexibility is a must! We need you to be a motivated self-starter, but also a good collaborator. That’s the key to success at this company.
  • We work at a very high rate of speed. You must be able generate ideas, projects and edits quickly and effectively.
  • Multiple degrees, interests, passions and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and experiencing life is a big plus. Let’s face it, we need people who are passionate about learning and participating in the subjects we design and present.

Software: You must know Illustrator and Photoshop forwards and backwards. It’d be nice if you knew SketchUp, CAD or other media programs. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is also important.

As an ideal candidate, you'll want to be extremely organized and prepared to utilize your problem-solving skills. Attention to detail is a huge factor, as is a wide degree of creativity. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: flexibility is a must.

How to apply:

Email your resume in either Word or PDF format, along with a cover letter and 3 design samples to jobs@brcweb.com. (Please include “Design Lead” in the Subject line of your email.) If you have an online portfolio, just send us the URL and don’t bother with the PDF samples.

We will not read submissions that don’t include a resume or cover letter.
